I discovered that I put that frontpage widget group on all page templates…although I shouldn’t have. Unfortunately I cannot take that out because on updates, it will create problems for everyone who already is using it. What you could do for yourself is one of two options:
1. use Dynamic Widgets plugin to publish the widgets only to the front page
2. remove from the page templates, except the front page one.
If you opt in for option 2, best to use a child theme to copy the page templates over to it and make that change so that you can get theme updates and not lose the modifications.
