As a side note, when displaying code in a post, it’s best to select (highlight) all your code, then on the editor is a Display Code button that you would click. The result is what you see in your post (which I edited to show how it looks). This helps prevent the site’s page from breaking when it sees HTML code like that.
Also, when you are in your WordPress dashboard, you can actually edit the file there by going to Appearance >> Edit >> then select the theme from the drop down, plus the file. I am also hoping you will use the child theme for this so you can keep the Encounters theme updated and not lose your changes. Might want to see my tutorial about the child theme for Encounters.
