Customize Font Colors etc

First of all, thank you for the great theme – I do use it since yesterday. Most of my customizations worked fine – what just don´t get are two things:

I want to have my Headlines in the sidebar (maybe the headlines for the index page, too) in a different color (#990033). I tried – using a child theme) changing that:

h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6{
font-family: open_sans, sans-serif;
font-weight:400;
color:#990033;
margin-bottom:16px;
margin-bottom:1rem;

it dit not change a thing… what did I do wrong?

Secondly I tried to change the colors of those blue lines right below the headlines in my sidebar – but I just can´t manage to find out, where they are defined…

You have to target the containers the elements you want to change. For the right sidebar, you would start off like this:

aside#right-column h3 { }

The blue lines can be changed with preset colours. This will explain how:

Thank you – worked for most widgets fine – except for Google Translator, Related Posts and Daikos Text (which has my ads) – Seems I have to find different widgets to get that running….

Odd…it should work for any widget. I will try this out. What related posts widget are you using…the default WP one? Also, what Google Translator plugin?

Ok, for Daikos Text I found a replacement. Google Translator I used a very old (and, as it seems, never updated) “Google Translator” (V. 0.0.4) – I found a replacement, too. For related posts I used the Zemanta plugin…

(Just in case someone has a similar problem here are the widgets it works with:
