I want to add an image like the boy image on the demo. I have a static front page. Is there a tutorial to do this and are their recommendations on the size of the image.
Hi Doreen…..For that photo, I just uploaded an image to the media library, copied the File URL for it (clicking on the edit after upload), then I use basic html in a text widget to insert the image and then published the widget in the Banner widget position.
I also used the jetpack Widget Visibility to just show this on the front page, but if you’re not using jetpack, you can use a plugin called Display Widgets. Also use a plugin called Remove Widget Titles which lets you hide the widget title from the front-end but maintain a title in the admin.
Is there a recommended size of the image?
Depends on the width of your page if you go full width or the boxed style like the demo site has. The one on the demo is a 1500 x 500 sized photo, but your height can be anything you want.
I’ve set-up the Display Widgets for the same effect, with a text Widget with Show on Checked Pages: Front Page & Home Page (aren’t they one and the same?). I also edited Home page and selected Template: Full Width Page. As you can see at http://robbiemorrison.ca/ the image does not display in the banner to the edges like boy image on the demo site. Also, the “Home” is displayed with a bar underneath. My image is also 1500 px wide. Am I missing something here?
Which widget position you’re using ? Can you post the screenshot of the settings of your widget here ?

Hi Robbie,
You are inserting the image in the page content that’s the reason it is appearing like that. You need to add that image to the banner widget.
To insert image into the text-widget this can help you.

Thanks.
Ok, got it… the alt tag threw me for a loop but I figured that out (I guess I have to code that separately by hand). Lastly, from my query below, the “Home” text is displayed with a bar underneath – how do I delete that? Sorry for all the questions, I should be okay for a while after this 🙂
Hi Robbie,
The home text with a bar underneath is page title. You can hide that by going to Customize ->Basic Settings ->Hide Page Title. Or you can use Hide Title Plugin.
Thanks.
Hmmm, I have no such “Hide Page Title” from Basic Settings.

Hi Robbie,
So sorry, i made a mistake. You need to install the Hide Title Plugin to hide the title.
Link to plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/hide-title/
Thanks.
Hi, I am having a similar problem with my banner. I have a 1500 px wide image inserted into the Banner widget you recommended and a Full Page Width setting for my home page. I can’t figure out why my banner doesn’t go edge to edge. You can see the result here: http://firedrakeprod.com/
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Julie Allen
Hi Julie,
The 1500px image size is for box-medium layout since you are using a full width layout the image size for you will be a width of 2500px.
Thanks.
