Logo wrapper area customizations

I’d like to add a small icon off to the right in the logo area (above the navigation menu) and also make it clickable to content within the site (other than the home page). I want to keep the logo area clickable to the site front page as was intended, just add one small icon on the right. (I’ve seen themes that had a widget area at the top of the page.) I’m wondering if this is possible with the Preference Theme? I suppose I would need to edit the header.php?

You could definitely do that, but if you do it, html, css, and some theme skills would be required. The file being modified would be the header.php file, which it’s recommended a child theme is used (included in the setup tutorials) when making these kind of modifications.
