ParticipantI have many items with the read more tag inserted after several paragraphs. When I check the display on my site, the full text of the article appears without need to click on a continue reading button. I am using WordPress 4.5.2 and the current version of Pure and Simple.

ParticipantYou won’t find articles with read more tags on the home page. Go here to see a page with such articles: http://eaglepeakpress.com/wordpress/eagle-peak-quarterly-current-issue/. Here is a link to one of the articles featured on that page: http://eaglepeakpress.com/wordpress/article/an-interview-with-bob-tansey/. As you will see, the full article is displayed there. Here is what the portion of the article with the more tag looks like on the backend edit screen as shown in the text mode to reveal the more tag:
I’d been to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and had been to Japan for Buddhist trips and because Stephanie’s parents were living there. That was the extent of my international travel. Between my MPA and interest in the world I was fairly well-read and I’d met people from quite a few countries within our Buddhist community in the DC area, but the rest of the world was almost like a mystery to me in terms of my actual experience.

ModeratorHi John Maberry,
Yes we had seen all the link you had provided. All the links are single page where all the content are displayed so read more tag doesn’t work there.. And it seems you keeping custom links and content on that page. To add read more tag after your custom content you need to keep custom link with proper html and css: Here is the example : i had illustate the example for Universal Respect for Human Dignity: the Great Path to Peace article

ParticipantThanks, so I would need to insert this on every item? Where should I insert this on the button?

ParticipantHi John,
You can keep the code wherever you want to keep the read more tag. We hope you understand.
Thanks

ParticipantNo, I don’t understand. Sushil gave an example of code for this on one specific article. I tried inserting it on that article. What it does is place that button there but the entire article still shows up–the part after the read more button. It may be that the magazine plugin I am using is causing this. I have sent a query to them to clarify the issue. If that’s the way the plugin works, I may have to deal with it. OR they may give me a solution.

ModeratorHi John Maberry,
Its seems you are confused on functioning of read more tag. As already discussed on previous reply read more tag is only used to link to you full page/article. As you are already on full article so read more tag doesn’t function there.
The code that we had provided on previous reply can be used if you are providing othere article short description to particular full article and want user to click on read more tag to see full article.
Note: Read more tag is only used on blog post or post listing page, so on clicking on that it can lead the user to full article.
We hope this clarifies your doubt on read more tag. please refer to this article https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/, this may helps you to clarify your foubt
Thanks
