ParticipantHi
Trying to find the recent stuff for making the front page like the demo site.
The two files which I think should be in Extras Folder “front page” and Call to Action”
I cannot find these and as they were added recently wondering how I get them. I have gone to my FTP Client but cannot see them there?
Hope you can help
Thanks,
Julie

ModeratorHi Julie…. what version of Encounters do you have? You might need to download it again as it’s on version 1.3.2. I just downloaded one and looked in the extras folder and found the “call-to-action.txt” and “front-page-group.txt” files there. The extras folder is in the original theme download file that you unzip first to your desktop. I can also send you the theme update if you contact me.

Moderatorawesome… when you said you did the update from it appearing in your dashboard I was like hey, how did it do that? lol…only the themes from wordpress.org does that. Anyway, glad you got it sorted out and obviously you are updated now.
Well, tea time for me and then calling it a night. Big day tomorrow as I am launching my new Styled Themes website by nightfall.

MemberHi I’m not seeing where that front page data is that she referenced above. I don’t see where I can download those files into my existing encounters theme. I have Encounters 1.3.2
Also, I have downloaded the widgetkit to make a slideshow like shownn in the demo site. But I’m not understanding how under the Style option in the tutorial it shows default and encounters. Mine only gives the default option. I don’t understand the FTTP folder it created etc. Please help I’m a bit lost on this. I’m on a MAC as well, so not sure if that matters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

ModeratorMorning Sara….The files in question will be found in the “extras” folder which you will find when you first unzipped the downloaded theme. Double check that the extras folder is in it and if you still do not see the ones in reference to this topic, let me know and I can email them to you.
For the widgetkit theme style, you have to upload the special theme I made for it using your FTP program and needs to go into the plugins folder where widgetkit is. I’m assuming you saw in the video where it goes but wasn’t sure how to get it there? It has to be uploaded. As for being on a MAC, that doesn’t matter because this is being uploaded to where your WordPress website files are on your site.

MemberHi, I did look in my extra folder but the front page group isn’t in that folder.
Secondly, I have no clue what and FTP program is. Correct, i did see where the pull down menu is in widgetkit, but I’m not sure where that folder would be. I uploaded my theme intiailly as shown in the tutorials, but I’m not understanding where the FTP folder came in to play or when it was created. All i have is the main folder i downloaded for encounters on my computer.
Thanks

ModeratorI’ve added the front page group file here:
An FTP program is something you use to upload files to where a website is located. For me, I use WS_Ftp, but the most popular one (which is free) is called FileZilla. Your web host provider also has a type of FTP program build into the control panel when you log into your web host which is often called a File Manager. It allows you to move, delete, and upload files.
You will need one of these methods to upload the “encounters” style folder to the widgetkit plugin folder. When you use an FTP program or the file manager in your web host cpanel (control panel), you will look for this folder in the following path that looks similar to this:
../wp-content/plugins/widgetkit/widgets/slideshow/styles/
In the /styles/ folder that you see in the path above, you will find the “default” style (folder). The encounters folder for the widgetkit will go where that default folder is in the /styles/ folder.
By the way, the folder you are uploading is found in the extras folder of the original download of the theme zip file. Inside that is “/extras/widgetkit/slideshow/encounters” which the encounters folder there is what you upload to the widgetkit plugin.

MemberOK… so I should download filezilla (the easiest for me) and then upload the encounters style folder that is shown in the tutorials. Once I’ve done so then this should then allow me to choose the encounters theme in the style drop down menu?

ModeratorCorrect… it will automatically show in that drop down. You have the option to use the file manager in your web host account or you can download and install filezilla.
