When I go to Discussion and uncheck Leave comment, the item remains. Is ther a way to edit this out of the “php’ file?

lol..first, I see I left this forum active. As soon as you fill me in on what theme this relates to, I will move the topic to it. What theme are you using?

    #18852

    The Preferance Theme

When you say “item remains” do you mean comments or the comment form? Also, are you referring to unchecking the checkbox next to “Allow Comments” on the post or page editor screen?

When unchecking that box, the only thing it does is remove the comment form…which is how it functions in WordPress. Were you wanting to totally remove all reminiscence of comments from the site?

    Yes

Go to >> Settings >> Discussion
Uncheck “Allow people to post comments on new articles”

For any comments that already exist, these will show in the posts and/or pages. WordPress doesn’t make it easy to disable all comments and options, so you would have to delete the comments so that none show up in the posts or pages. Then, for all new posts, comments will be disabled.
I’m assuming this is what you want to do then?

This doesn’t work. look at My site is http://www.chicagoheightsalumni.com . I don’t want anyone to have the option to post a comment.

If this can’t be done I will have tolook at a different Theme

I went to look but you’re in maintenance mode… but if anything is still there, the only other method would be to add custom css to “display: none;” on anything that has anything relating to comments, or last resort, stripping out the code from several files.

I just found this plugin that disables comments….I just tried this in Preference and sure enough, it took out everything relating to comments.
