Ah… now I think I know what you are using. You are using the Layer Slider, correct? Or the Widgetkit one? If it’s the LayerSlider, the developer changed a lot of things about the plugin, which means I need to update the tutorial. However, the two skins I made for the LayerSlider, celestial, and celestialcurve, go to this new location:

    / plugins / LayerSlider / static / skins /

If you are using the Widgetkit slider, then you need to upload the skin for that one; found in the theme download in a folder called Widgetkit.

    I’m using the Layer Slider.
I have the 2 skins in this folder already.

Go to your LayerSlider and open the slideshow you have or making…at the top, click on the Slider Settings tab, then select Appearance. In the drop down skin list, select the skin you want. But please note that the curve will only show on the front page showcase area….not on inner pages. This is why there are two skins, one for the front page showcase with the curve, then the other is for inner pages. This theme only has the curve set for the front page.

Can I change the color of the navigation buttons of the slider through CSS or do I have to change the image?

Because they are image based, you would need to edit the image or create new ones.
