MemberI’m having problems getting many if not most of the widgets to work. I cannot get the “Call to Action”, or the “inset top” and actually several others. Is there something I’m not doing? Oh, and I am using the Pro version of Encounters. Thanks!

ModeratorHi Kendra…first, for anything relating specifically to a theme, best to post it in the appropriate forum category, so I just moved this to the Encounters forum.
Regarding widgets, not all page templates have the complete set of widget positions, so you will want to check that you are using any of the “Front Page” named templates.
As a side note, if you want any of those widget positions on your blog page (the one that displays posts), the Call to Action and Insets are not available for that layout.

MemberOh and when I change the template for the page (front page) the right sidebar doesn’t work like it does if I use the default template. I have my opt-in form on the right sidebar. This works just fine in the default template – but none of the other widgets seem to work then. If I change it to “Front page with right sidebar) some of the other widgets work but the opt-in box moves all the way to the bottom of the page – even though it shows as being in the right sidebar.
thanks for any help you can provide!

ModeratorI just tried the page template but was successful in widgets in the right sidebar column… however, please post your site’s url here and I will take a look to see what might be happening. What version of Encounters are you using?

MemberThanks…yea I knew where I hsould post and totally forgot. Sorry.
Yes the sidebar seems to work but not the call to action. the website I’m working on right now is “under construction” but the one that I want the stuff on – especially call to action is: http://www.blahfreeliving.com/ and I have not been able to get several of the of widgets to work. Many thanks for all your help! Love the support that you provide all of us!!!!

ModeratorI think this one I am going to need access to your site admin if that is possible? I’m able to get the Call to Action to show on my local test site, but to see this up close is needed. Please contact me with login details (don’t post them here) and I will test this out. I hope you won’t mind me doing some demo content for the test?

ModeratorBy the way, I just now noticed you are on version 1.3.2 of Encounters (current version is 1.3.6). You may want to consider updating the theme, but if you do, please make a copy of your current theme files first as a backup.

ModeratorThank you for the login. I made your front page set to the Front Page with Right Column template and the Call to Action worked. So what I did is put your page template back to the default template. You need to update your theme because it fixes some things you are experiencing like the right column widgets going to the bottom. version 1.3.3 fixed that.
The way to do this is to download Encounters, unzip it, then unzip the theme file to your desktop. Using your FTP program (hopefully you have one, such as Filezilla which is free), upload the theme files to replace the existing files. ***BEFORE you do this, download your Encounters theme first so you have a backup just in case you had to revert back to it. Basically you will upload the new theme to replace the existing Encounters theme. This cannot be done with the WordPress theme installer (this only works for themes stored at WordPress.org).
After this, change your front page to the Front Page with Right Column. Then you can then add your Call to Action. Remember that only the Front Page templates have the complete set of widget positions. Please refer to this video tutorial for info about that here:

MemberOk now I’m feeling a little…well confused (not going to say stupid!) How do I download Encounters? I would think that since I initially paid for it that I would get the updates. When I go to download it I get taken to the payment page. thanks!

ModeratorNow worries, and also you’re very welcome, and thanks too. As for downloading Encounters, you would use the same method you used when you first got the theme. So if you purchased the theme on its own, the download link you got in the email when you purchased it, is the one you use again for each time there’s an update. The “Download” link in my top menu is only for the “Theme Membership”. That one takes you to a download area where you get access to all themes. As a side note, you can always upgrade to the theme membership for $30.

MemberOk…now i know why I saved that e-mail!
LOL…I have thought about getting the full membership but if I did that I would have access to all the themes and then would be playing around even more than I already do trying to figure out what I really want! :cheer:
