ParticipantHiya,
I have just upgraded to wordpress 3.9 and I now find that the drop down colour do not let you put in a specific colour (the number), so just wondering if you think this is specific to some kind of incompatibility with my Encounter theme or a wordpress glitch, or perhaps the wordpress developers intended this, but for what reason is lost on me..
Btw, I do have all my headings set to the specific colour as per encounters customisation, but it does not always work, so sometimes I have to put the colour number in myself…
Hope you can help
Thanks,

ModeratorI’m assuming you are referring to the customizer? Since WP 3.9, a lot of people are experiencing issues with 3.9 and it looks like they should have kept testing it before going full public release. One of the problems is the WP Customizer getting affected. I’ve even seen some people post compatibility issues with some plugins. You may want to inform WordPress about your colour selector not working properly because this sounds like another bug with 3.9
Your last question….is this in relation to what you are experiencing after you upgraded?
As a side note, you can always revert back to 3.8

ParticipantThank you,
No, it’s not the customiser, it’s the colour select box in the post section.
But, if it’s a bug with WordPress 3.9 then I guess they will fix it, but I will write to them, there are other weird things, but the inability to choose to change colour of font is a real problem.
As for my side note, regarding colour customisation, I have always found that temperamental, but it could just be me and the way I do things when I lay out a post, which up until now has not really been a problem because I could also change the font colour as I went along..
The main titles always stay the colour I want, but any other titles are a bit hit and miss, but again, I think it’s me not the theme
Maybe I will revert back to 3.8 until they sort it out..
Anyway, thanks again,
Julie

ModeratorIn the post section? You mean the editor?
As for WP 3.9, I came across an article about what is new in 3.9 and comments were showing people having a mix of problems after they upgraded to the new WP. As far as I know, the development team is working on all the bugs people are experiencing; some even lost widgets.
If you can revert back to 3.8.3, you may want to consider that. However, I would also recommend you make a full backup and always when there is a major update to WordPress. Check out the better quality backup plugins.

MemberI’m also interested in back-up plugins. Is it worth getting the paid backup plugins or are the free ones just as good?

Moderator@Sarah…..definitely having a backup system in place is one of the most important things to have with any website. For WordPress, there’s a few options you can consider:
1. http://wordpress.org/plugins/backupwordpress/
2. https://vaultpress.com/Incidentally, VaultPress is made by the makers of WordPress, Automattic.
However, there’s other options available to consider, but for myself, I would check out the two I mentioned above.
